What to Look For In Your Wireless Security Cameras

Outdoor wireless security cameras are a great innovation in home security.  They can give you the peace of mind that you get with a professional security system, but at a fraction of the price and setup time.  However, if you want to find the best system for your home you need to know what will work first.  Here are some things to look for.

First, and most importantly, look at the camera’s wireless range.  Before you go into the store, think about where you want to put your cameras and your receiver.  For any wireless system that you look at, make sure that the wireless range is well within that number.  If the signal has to pass through walls, which is likely, make sure to allow for a lot of breathing room because walls significantly weaken wireless signals.

Next, look at the lux ratings for the camera.  Unless you’re planning on using your camera in conjunction with a motion sensor activated security light, you should find cameras with infrared LEDs that allow them to see in the pitch black, or a lux rating of zero.  This way, no matter when a criminal may strike, he will always be caught on tape.

The next thing to look at is image resolution.  There are cameras available with a huge range of capabilities, from broadcasting fuzzy pictures to sharp HD-quality images.  What you end up getting will most likely depend on what you can afford.  You don’t need to have the most high tech camera on the market, but do try to find one that puts out clear images.  If you can’t afford it right now, save for a little bit longer for your system instead of going for a lower quality model.

Image quality, wireless range, and lux rating are the three most important things to look for when you’re buying a wireless security camera.  For more information on wireless cameras, visit Outdoor Security Camera Reviews.
