Dummy security cameras (or fake security cameras as they are also known) are non-operational surveillance cameras - in other words identical in most respects to a fully functioning version but without any working parts. The main aim of this type of camera is to fool would be intruders, therefore these are often placed in areas where they will be easily seen.
Fake cameras are a good option when one has a limited budget for real ones. They are not functional and do not have real lenses or internal parts, and are best suited for places that suffer minor vandalism or are theft prone.

A legitimate dummy camera will have a metal (or sturdy plastic) housing, a glass lens, two cables, and an authentication seal. Before selecting any particular dummy camera, it is best to have a look at the real surveillance camera models to gain a better idea about security cameras in general.
It is good to choose weather proof housing and it should be sturdy enough to shield the camera from bad weather. Also, plastic mounting bracket should be avoided, again because these types of cheap brackets are not used with real surveillance cameras.
By carefully choosing one or more fake cameras, you should be able to greatly improve the safety and security of your location but at a fraction of the cost involved with installing a real surveillance camera.
